ALASKA MUSIC CENSUS

Developed by AKIMI, the Alaska Music Census is a first-of-its-kind, statewide study designed to map Alaska’s music ecosystem and measure the economic, cultural, and community impact of music across the state. The Census collects data from musicians, venues, festivals, educators, industry workers, and music-related businesses to create a shared foundation of knowledge for policy, funding, and industry development.

By documenting who is making music in Alaska, how they earn a living, and the economic impact of the sector, the Alaska Music Census provides data Alaska has never had before and, for the first time, shines a light on the state’s commercial music economy. It enables better understanding, stronger advocacy, and more informed investment in Alaska’s vibrant music scene. The results support smarter funding decisions, more effective policy, and a more sustainable future for Alaska’s independent music community.
